Spitsbergen Borebreen Dogsled

Mighty mountains and stunning white snow: during the expedition you will experience an amazing world filled with powerful glaciers and alpine peaks. Throughout the expedition you will be with the dog teams, travelling through the stunning landscape. The only sound you will hear is from the dogs’ feet quietly padding through the snow.

In the midst of an adventure

Northwest from Longyearbyen lies Trollheimen; the mountain wilds where
dreams become reality. The expedition starts with a boat trip over the Isfjord to Borebukta. Here we set up our camp that we will use as a base for day trips. Each day you will find you have more and more contactwith the dogs, as they faithfully listen foryour cues and affectionately follow yourcommands. This is a fantastic way to experience the Arctic – miles of white plains covered in nearly deafening silence.

Throughout the decades mushers and dogs have experienced the magnificent landscape together, and the dogs also make great polar bear guards. This will be your own authentic polar expedition.

Day by day program

Day 1 - Monday
14:00: The guide will meet you at the airport or at your accommodation in Longyearbyen, and take you to the starting point of the trip.

You will receive your tour clothes and be transported by boat across the Isfjord, to the camp where our new four-legged friends will be waiting. As we cross Isfjorden, we will be met by a fantastic view of a glacier reaching the sea. In the camp we will go through safety instructions and routines, and get to know our new travel companions, the polar huskies, before we call it a day.

Day 2 - Thuesday
After a good night's sleep and a solid breakfast, we will prepare the sleds and harness the dogs. You will drive your ovn sled with 5-6 dogs. This day we will drive up the Borebreen and into Trollheimen. We will travel in this magnificent yet quiet landscape, between noble mountains and massive glaciers - just like the early polar explorers.

In the afternoon we return to the campsite, and everyone will participate in camplife and feeding the dogs. A hearty dinner follows the unforgettable day, and then we snuggle up in our sleeping bags while the dogs surround the camp, keeping watch for polar bears.

You will notice that you’re mushing skills increases and that the routines become second nature. Everyone will develop a real appreciation for the dogs’ work ethic, and perhaps be surprised by how affectionate these mighty animals are.

Day 3 - Wednesday
In the afternoon we return to the camp and it is time to say goodbye to our four-legged friends. We will cross Isfjorden again on our way back to Longyearbyen.

  • All times are subject to change.
  • The travel schedule will be altered should the weather conditions deem it necessary.
