Oktoberfest in 2012 will be 27th -29th of September.

An abundance of beer,barbecuing & boisterous fun

In September we turn our focus to hops, malt and music for three full days as we hold the world’s northernmost Oktoberfest! Every year on the last weekend in September we arrange this fantastic festival to celebrate beer in a large yet warm tent outside the Radisson Blu Polar Hotel Spitsbergen.

Come and choose from over 60 different beers, including the world’s strongest
beer, which you can’t get anywhere else in Norway. Enjoy the live music and tasty food from the barbecue. The pub at the hotel will serve a special menu for the occasion, with local food well-matched to the precious brews.

September is a fantastic time to visit Svalbard, with beautiful autumn colours
making an appearance in the landscape. Oktoberfest begins with a serving of
‘fårikål’, a Norwegian lamb stew, on Thursday, and the festival tent will be
filled with a great mix of locals and visitors.

Programme and activities

The program in 2011 is filled to the brim from Thursday to Saturday. Some of the highlights include a boat trip on the Isfjord to the Russian town of Barentsburg, the crowning of ‘Moustache of the Year’ and ‘Miss Oktoberfest’, bowling touraments, free tastings, and presentations from the Carlsberg Group’s ‘beer missionary’ Sigrid Strætkvern, Rune Lennart Andreassen, master brewer from Mack Bryggeri, as well as Petter Nome from ‘Bryggeriforeningen’, the Norwegian brewery association.

Fantastic bands will entertain the crowds, with Bernard & Chris & Anne Mari, Solid Comfort, Jørn A. Støa and Sophia Mendozo m/band.

There will be a festival lounge in Brasseri Nansen from 11pm each night, and After-beer in Barentz Pub & Spiseri each evening with live music and singing from midnight.

In the period of Oktoberfest it is possible to join different excursions. You will find more information about excursions here, and please contact us for more information about which excursions that are available.

Fårikål

‘Fårikål', a traditional Norwegian lamb stew, will be servered in the festivaltent, Barentz Pub & Spiseri and in Brasseri Nansen at Thursday.
