60% of Svalbard is permanently covered by glaciers and given that we are halfway between mainland Norway and the North Pole, one might expect it be unbearable cold. It isn’t. Thanks to the Gulf Stream Svalbard boasts a surprisingly mild climate with distinctive seasons.The winter is dark and magical, while the summer is beautiful, yet cool.
