A culinary experience with an Arctic twist! Join us for a bus ride around Longyearbyen and try the local specialities.
We start the tour with a stop at the newly opened Svalbard Bryggeri. We'll get a taste of the local produced beer, and we get the full story how it's to run your own brewery at 78 degrees north.
We continue our tour through Longyearbyen where we'll pass and hear about old cultural remains from trappers on Svalbard, when they were hunting polar fox, reindeer, seal and polar bears.
We stop at the newly opened green house, Polar Perma Culture, where we'll taste some local produced herbs!
The distance between the miners and officials have always been great. We stop either at "Spitsbergen Hotel" or "Huset" (The house), and get a taste of champagne or wine, depending on season.
At Spitsbergen Hotel we'll get the story of the social differences in Longyearbyen, from the rich and wealthy to the workers in the coal mines.
Spitsbergen Hotel used to be the place where alcohol was rationed and handed out to the workers and people living in Longyearbyen. We'll visit the place that is now used as an champagne cellar, where you'll get a taste of some exclusive beverage.
The house was centrally located and was therefore called the city's heart. It was neutral midway between class distinction, between miners and officials. Today, instead one of Northern Europe's best wine cellars where we will be served a glass of wine and hear the story of the house and cellar.
The last stop on our guided tour will be at "Fruene" where we'll get the story how the world's northernmost chocolate is made! The tour ends here.
The price includes bus transportation in Longyearbyen, with a digital explanation of some of the main sights we pass on the way, a tiny little taste along the way, and a good drink. There is no guide on the trip, but we will be welcomed by hosts at all places we visit.
The tour is held Monday, Wednesday and Saturday throughout the year.
Pick up at the hotel where you are staying. The tour ends in the city, at our last stop, "Fruene".
